Karpathos is the Third largest island in Greece. Most of civilization has gathered in the south, where the port city Pigadia (marked with Karpathos on the map) is located. This is a very nice port, the cutest we have visited in Greece. Another nice thing with this island is that all Tourism is strictly regulated. There is a tiny airport, which only accepts a few flights a week.

Many of the Greeks here have emigrated to the United States. Therefore they speak English very well, which is NOT the case elsewhere. Another curiosity is that one could easily see which of the young people here who were just summer vistors from the USA. They had adopted the American Junk Food habits ...

The City of Olympos is a place you just HAVE to visit. It is built into the mountain top of the northern peak of the Island, very hard to notice from the sea. The reason for this is that the Sea Pirates should not find it. It is also one of Europe's last matriarchal society. The women ruled here, when all the men had gone away to work.
