In the summer of 2004, we went for a family reunion in the Nesje family (Anne's mother side) in Bodø. This was a nice summer vacation up north. The weather however was not at the best. But it didn't affect us to much, since we had a slightly longer trip remaing during the Schools Autumn holiday. A trip to Florida and New York. Not a bad word about Bodø, but Miami, Everglades, Kennedy Space Center, Orlando and New York sounds a little better. It came out to be a fantastic trip, which the kids will never forget. In addition, this autumn the coastline of Florida was hit by Hurricane after Hurricane. We had a direct hit by a Hurricane, named "Jeanne", while we stayed in Orlando. On one side kind of "Interesting" for us Norweigiasn who don't have Hurricanes back home. On the other side it wasn't much worse than the Storms we have on the Norweigian Coastline during Autumn.
We were gone for 2 weeks, the school autumn holiday and an extra week. This is low season in Florida. There WERE tourists there, but not very many. And it was perfect timing when it came to lines in the Amusement parks. Because there were NO lines - perfect!
Some of the highlights was:
- Orlando, the worlds Amusement Park capitol.
- Kennedy Space center.
- Miami
- "Air Boat Ride" in the Everglades.
- BIG road systems!
- New York
This was planned, but we didn't had time for it
- Sunbathing on the West Coast in Clearwater.
- A visit to US's oldest town, St. Augustine (straight north of Daytona Beach).
- Stock Car racing on Daytona Beach.-
- Spend a night on Key West.
